Transgender athlete will compete this week at CIF State track championships in California

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State track and field championships at Buchanan High School this weekend have sparked controversy as a transgender athlete is set to compete.

This video provided to FOX26 News is of Ab Hernandez competing in CIF-SS Preliminaries on May 10th at Yorba Linda HS.

Clovis Mayor Pro Tem Diane Pearce highlighted the issue on social media, stating that Hernandez will be competing at the Clovis event over the weekend.

“A biological male will be competing against our girls and he is favored to win the state title in at least one event,” Pearce said.
