Tumwater track team sparks debate with protest shirts at state championships

The Tumwater girls’ track team raised eyebrows at the State Track Championships on Saturday for what they did after the race.

In photos that are widely circulating online, multiple students can be seen on the medals podium wearing t-shirts that read “Keep Women’s Sports Female.”

Adults, who appear to be coaches, can be seen smiling in the frame. It came after a transgender student beat the team in multiple races.

The Tumwater School District declined any sort of on-camera interviews about the display, and that was after yet another protest outside the front door of Tumwater High School on Monday, with similar messaging about youth sports.
