Controversy in Clovis over transgender athlete set to compete in track and field championship

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Track and Field championships at Buchanan High School this weekend have sparked controversy as a transgender athlete is set to compete.

Clovis Mayor Pro Tem Diane Pearce highlighted the issue on social media, stating, “A biological male will be competing against our girls and he is favored to win the state title in at least one event.”

Pearce argued that this participation violates an executive order issued by President Donald Trump on Feb. 5, which aimed to keep men out of women’s sports.
