Neeraj Chopra has etched his name in the annals of Indian athletics history by breaching the elusive 90-meter mark for the first time in his career. At the 2025 Doha Diamond League held on May 16, Chopra delivered a phenomenal throw of 90.23 meters on his third attempt, setting a new personal best and national record .
This remarkable feat places Chopra among an elite group of javelin throwers worldwide, making him the 25th athlete globally and the third Asian to surpass the 90-meter barrier . His series of throws included an impressive 88.44m opener, a foul on the second attempt, the historic 90.23m on the third, followed by 80.56m and another foul.
Despite this landmark achievement, Chopra finished second in the competition. Germany’s Julian Weber clinched the gold with a dramatic final throw of 91.06 meters, overtaking Chopra’s lead in the last round . Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured third place with a best throw of 85.64 meters .
