Tokyo Olympics 2020 day 3 news –
Men’s Hammer Throw Olympics – Polish Nowicki qualifies with the furthest throw of 79.78. 75.73 was needed to progress to the final.
Women’s 1500m Olympics – Faith Kipyegon qualifies as fastest with 4:01.40. But the main news is Sifan Hassan falling at the bell, getting up and still winning her heat. Her last lap was in 60 seconds, which included her fall.
Good news for Canada as both the stafford’s qualify for the next round. Biggest shock was Mageean of Ireland not qualifying.
Men’s long jump Olympic final – Double podium for Cuba with Echevarria and Massa getting silver and bronze. But it was Greek Tentoglou who jumped 8.41 in his final attempt to win. 8.41 was the same distance Echevarria jumped, but a better 2nd furthest jump secured the win for Greece.
Women’s 200m Olympics – I have no words for Ellain Thompson-Herah. She runs a 21.66 in the outside lane, whilst jogging the last 30m. Crazy to think but she can actually go for the 200m World record in the final. Only surprise was that Prandini of the USA and Schippers of the Netherlands failed to qualify for the final.
Women’s 100m Hurdles Olympic final – No surprise as favourite after the heats Jasmine Camacho-quinn wins in 12.37. Kendra Harrison 2nd and Megan Tapper of Jamaica in 3rd.
Women’s Pole Vault Olympics -Rain caused issues early on and postponed the qualifiers. It took 4.55m to qualify which 7 athletes did first attempt. Sadly Sandy Morris struggled with Injury and didn’t make the final. Her pole also snapped in her first jump after the rain.
Women’s discus Olympic final – America’s first gold in track and field as Valarie Allman’s first round throw of 68.98 wins her Gold. Kristin Pudenz of Germany got silver and Yaime Perez of Cuba got Bronze. Rain was an issue here too.
Men’s 400m Olympics – Kierani James qualifies as fastest easing down towards the finish with a time of 43.88. Michael Cherry and Michael Norman both made it through but neither looked that impressive. The final is wide open.
Women’s 400m Hurdles – The top 3 qualifying times were from Sydney Mclaughlin, Dalihah Muhammad and Femke Bol. Exactly what most people will think the podium will be. 54.25 was the time needed to get to the final.
Men’s 3000m Steeplechase Olympic final – Soufiane Elbakkali wins gold. Girma of Ethopia gets silver and Kigen of Kenya gets 3rd. 4th was Genet Wale who ran an extremely fast 3000m time. I don’t understand why he doesn’t just focus on not jumping over hurdles because his technique is awful and cost him a medal in the last lap.
Women’s 5000m final – Sifan Hassan makes headlines again by getting a clear victory, with a 57 lap lap! For a time of 14:36.79. Hellen Obir of Ethiopia got 2nd and Gudaf Tsegay got the Bronze for Kenya.
Performance of the day goes to Sifan Hassan fall and double win. As well as Elaine Thompson’s 21.66.
Shock of the day would be Sandy Morris not making the Pole vault final, and Dafainie Schwippers not getting to the final of the 200m.
