OLYMPICS TRACK AND FIELD DAY 5 NEWS – Men's 400m hurdles Kartsen Warholm World Record

Men’s 1500m Olympics – Another fall in a middle distance event as one of the medal favourites Marcin Lewandoski tumbles. But get’s reinstated and a pass through to the semi finals. Shock as Filiip Ingebrigtsen and Samuel Teffera fail to go through. All other favourites such as Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Timothy Cheryiout and Stewy Mcsweyn qualify.

Women’s Long jump Olympic final – Germany Mihambo takes Gold with her last attempt of 7.00m. Brittney Reese places 2nd with 6.97. Ese Brume of Nigeria in 3rd with 6.97 also.

Men’s 400m Hurdles Olympic final – The best rave ever! Karsten Warholm runs 45.94, Rai Benjamin 2nd in 46.17 and Alison Dos Santos 46.72 in 3rd. They now rank the top 3 of all time. Nothing I can say will do this justice.

Men’s Pole Vault Olympic Final – Armand Duplantis takes Gold with 6.02 as well as 2 very close attempts at his World record. Nilsen of the USA in 2nd and Thiago Braz takes 3rd with 5.87.

Women’s Hammer Throw Olympic final – Anita Wlodarczyk wins in 78.48, Wang Zheng 77.03, and Kopron makes it two Polish athletes on the podium.

Men’s 200m Semi Final – Andre Dregrasse impresses with a national record of 19.73 with all three USA athletes also making the final, including 17 year old Erriyon Knighton. Noah Lyles gets a fastest loser spot after slowing down too much before he crossed the line.

Women’s 800m Olympic final – Athing Mu unsurprisingly takes gold with an American record of 1:55.21. Keely Hogkinson gets silver with a British record of 1:55.88, and Raven Rodgers passes Jemma Reekie on the line to get Bronze. Mu and Hogkinson are both only 19.

Women’s 200m Olympic final – Elaine Thompson-Herah wins in 21.53 and firmly cements herself as the greatest sprinter alive. Christine Mboma gets 2nd with a u20 World record with 21.81. And Gabby Thomas gets Bronze.

Performance of the day has to go to Karsten Warholm and Rai Benjamin. But also Athing Mu and Keely Hogkinson. By far the best day of athletics so far.

Shock of the day is Fillip Ingebrigtsen, Jye edwards and Teffera not progressing to the semi finals of the 1500m. As well as Josh Kerr looking poor.
